A Study on the Reduction of Chlorinated Organics in Bleach Plant Effluent by Oxidation with Oxygen
نویسنده
چکیده
The removal of chlorinated organics from the E, effluent by oxygen oxidation treatment was studied. It was found that the reduction of TOCI and colour from the fraction of highmolecular-weight chlorolignins is vitally important to the overall reduction of TOCI and colour from the El effluent. Three pathways are potentially involved in the removal of TOCI and colour from the E, effluent: degradation, oxidation, and the hydrolytic splitting of chlorine from chlorolignins. The removal of the TOCl and colour occurred mainly in the early stages of the treatment; the same was true for the degradation of the chlorolignins. Lo w-molecularweight compounds may be formed due to degradation of the chlorolignin, and these can be further degraded by the treament.

Pyrolysis of chlorinated phenolics and thiolignin was investigated to elucidate the principle step occurring during combustion of organic material in bleach plant effluent. Chlorinated phenolics found in bleach plant effluent. such as chlorophenols, chloroguaiacols, chlorovanillins and chlorosyringaldehydes, were completely decomposed at 700 to 900°C with alkali and oxygen. Organically bound ch...

Fenton process, as one of the most conventional advanced oxidation processes, is widely used in the treatment of specific wastewaters, especially landfill leachate. In current study, the main target was to evaluate some neglected aspects of Fenton process in operational applications. Thus, three novel responses were introduced. Mass removal efficiency evaluates overall recalcitrant destruction ...
متن کاملReduction of AOX in the bleach plant of a pulp mill.
The reconfiguration of an existing five-stage bleaching D0E1D1E2D2 sequence is proposed to ensure the minimal formation of organochlorine compounds, expressed as AOX, in the bleach plant of a kraft pulp mill processing Eucalyptus globulus wood. This reduction of the load of AOX in the effluents can be achieved without introducing new and expensive technologies in the bleaching process. In pract...
